I read another review that describes this song as being about "troubled relationships." I hadn't heard it before, but on my latest listen, I did. He's not singing what someone literally thinks about when they are in a codependent, dysfunctional relationship. He's singing ironically in their voice, about what they seem to be thinking to someone looking in from outside. "It's as though he doesn't even care that she tried to set his house on fire. He's still with her."
